Allen Park council to seek extension on city budget
(from The Detroit Free Press – June 29, 2011 )
The Allen Park City Council passed a resolution Tuesday to ask the state Treasurer’s Office for an extension that would allow the council and citizens to review the city’s budget before it is adopted.
The city’s 2011-12 fiscal year also starts Friday. Under state law, a city’s budget is to be adopted before the fiscal year begins.
“A four-day extension would keep council working on the budget within the charter and state proviso,” said Councilman James Flynn, who introduced the resolution. “An extension would allow a proper review period.”
“I can’t say it’s a guarantee, but the effort is worth putting forth,” said Todd Flood, the city’s attorney.
The council also approved resolutions that would allow Flood and City Administrator David Tamsen to draft millage proposals for public safety and debt retirement.

The PGA Tour event in Hilton Head Island, S.C., has landed RBC as a sponsor for the next five years.
So what does that mean for the Detroit Golf Club’s chances of getting a PGA Tour event?
Not much, according to Detroit Golf Club spokesman Todd Flood.
“The Heritage having a sponsor does not close the door on Detroit hosting a tournament,” Flood told The Detroit News on Thursday. “We know the sponsor and the PGA are working diligently with putting this tournament together in Detroit.”
The Detroit Golf Club has hosted PGA Tour officials and reportedly has secured a title sponsor (Cadillac). The club is simply waiting for a spot on the 43-event schedule to come free.
