FLCS attorney secures settlement for Riverview woman wrongfully charged in murder

Three former suspects in a Riverview double homicide have successfully sued several communities and the state for false arrest and imprisonment for a combined total of more than $1 million.

Riverview was the final community to settle lawsuits filed by Alicia Hartner, Phillip Morris and Michael Wellwood, original suspects in the 2008 deaths of Dennis Langley and Jack Mascow, both 61.

Todd Flood, the attorney who represented Hartner, said Wellwood was the first of the former suspects to file a lawsuit, followed by Hartner and Morris. He said the lawsuits were then joined together and handled by Wayne County Circuit Judge Jeanne Stempien.

“Ultimately, the right outcome came,” Flood said about the settlements. “It’s unfortunate we had to walk this path to get here.”
