From TheNewsHerald.com
April 21, 2012

In a 4-3 vote at a special meeting Tuesday, the Flood Lanctot Connor Stablein law firm was appointed the prosecuting attorney of the city of Royal Oak, beginning May 1.

Flood Law firm and the law firm of Miller & Miller were the two finalists. The Miller & Miller firm submitted a $18,000 bid; the Flood bid was $24,000 — 25 percent more.

“I fully agree with the committee that the Flood law firm is the most qualified firm when it comes to prosecuting.”

“I think there is a difference in the experience in the two firms,” Matakas said. “Clearly, the Flood law firm has much more experience. In normal times, I wouldn’t consider that a big plus in going with a firm with a higher bid, but we’re negotiating with the judges to reduce their budgets. One thing in reducing budgets is making certain that the attorneys can move those dockets quickly and efficiently.

Rae Cude had been a contestant in the WRIF Rock Girl contest. But the Defenders on ClickOnDetroit.com found out she was a wanted woman. In 2008, she was busted for open intoxication but failed to appear at a later court date. In 2009, she faced drunken driving charges. She violated probation by failing to show up in court again.

Two bench warrants were issued in Novi and Farmington Hills for her arrest.

“If you’re trying to abscond yet trying to put yourself out in the public figure, you know you’re going to get caught” said legal expert Todd Flood.

From Freep.com
April 24, 2012

Subway sandwiches and a confidential police informant took center stage today at a court hearing on corruption charges filed against the former Romulus police chief, his wife and five Romulus police officers

Lawyers for former chief Michael St. Andre; his wife, Sandra St. Andre; Channells; Detective Sgt. Richard Balzer; Detective Richard Landry; Detective Donald Hopkins, and Detective Larry Droege pointed out that prosecutors couldn’t prove Subway clerks and Farha weren’t pocketing cash.

“It is an issue — one issue that I think is significant,” said Todd Lanctot, attorney for Michael St. Andre, who lodged the most objections with Judge James Kersten, who is the chief judge from the 33rd District Court in Woodhaven and is presiding over the preliminary exam for the defendants.

Lanctot walked Farha through multiple receipts issued in 2006 from the Subway and pressed Farha to admit some of the receipts were inaccurate. Farha said in some instances, the money he collected was less than what the amount on the receipt.

“Those are fake receipts, right?” Lanctot said.

“Yes,” Farha said, going on to acknowledge that he couldn’t testify what exactly was ordered or who paid because the transactions happened so long ago.

Todd Flood represents gas station clerk on trial for murder. Hearing has been postponed to April 27th.

From CBSNews.com
April 09, 2012

DETROIT – A hearing has been postponed in the case of a Detroit gas station clerk who police say fatally shot a 24-year-old customer in the back during a dispute over the price of condoms.
Ibrahim Saleh, 23, was scheduled to appear in court Monday for a preliminary hearing on a first-degree murder charge in the March 10 killing of 24-year-old Michael Haynes. However, the hearing was adjourned because a new attorney was recently retained to represent Saleh.

CBS Detroit reports a plea of not guilty was entered for Saleh in March. He appeared via video monitor at his arraignment, while his attorney, Todd Flood, argued that it should not be a first degree murder case.

The hearing now will be held on April 27.

From ClickOnDetroit.com
April 06, 2012

Local 4 legal analyst attorney and our very own Todd Flood said it’s not unusual for law enforcement to interview family in an investigation.

“What they want to figure out is the truth. So, they want to eliminate defenses and make sure they’re putting the right person in the defendant’s chair,” Flood said.

But, Flood said, flying investigators to Iowa is significant.

“They’re moving the ball down the field as fast they can. They didn’t wait for whatever vacation, for whatever break. They went out to get the person, to get the interview,” Flood said.

“Realistically he’s going to face first degree murder. First degree murder is premeditated murder. He could get conspiracy to commit murder if he did it with someone else or at the instruction of someone else it could be conspiracy as well,” said Flood.

“The second person if there is one is solicitation to commit murder. If he asked Joe to do it and he was going to pay Joe, he also could be facing first degree murder as well because he aided and abetted with Joe. The aider and abettor is going to be just as guilty as the one who did it,” said Flood.
